Okay look: I was asked to write this up and I was told that I could say anything in here as long as I included photos of this Minecraft build that some guy did in their spare time where they made it look like Walter White’s lab in Breaking Bad (but not really all that much, it’s a little too abstract).
Now that’s out of the way? I can talk about anything, so okay:
What’s up with the way people react to Skylar’s character?
Skylar’s the best character on the show.
I think maybe I understand it. Skylar continually paints an obstacle for Walt, but unlike any other obstacle, Walt can’t murder his way out of their situation so she keeps on getting in the way without any real plot reconciliation.
Oh. Spoilers, obviously.
The audience is made to empathise with Walt because he’s the main character. You’ve seen him go through all this awful stuff just to provide for his family. Then he eventually gets to a point where he’s entirely irredeemable.
Skylar’s the only character that feels relatable. Even her faults. She feels alienated from her husband and cheats on him, that’s not a great thing to do, but she’s finding solace in the one man in her life that isn’t a murderous drug dealer.
She says she can’t stand knowing the kids live in the same house as him? She’s entirely correct to have her concerns! Walt has been targeted for attack by a drug cartel before!
So when people say she’s the worst part of the show, I don’t get it. Are you siding with the most ruthless and horrible villain in television history over a scared woman just trying to deal with the human consequences of his actions?
You’re terrible! You’re bad if you think that.
