System Shock 2 is now available on Good Old Games. For awhile, the only way to acquire the game was through a lucky haul in a used games bin or by downloading the game from an abandonware site. The legality of the latter not withstanding, it was almost impossible to acquire a proper, workable copy of System Shock 2 as it remained out of print.
Though it remained out of print, System Shock 2 has been rated as one of the best sci-fi shooters of all time, finding its home among the likes of Half-Life 2 and the original Deus Ex. The game defies FPS conventions with an innovative RPG system and characters like Shodan, who predates Portal's GLaDOS by almost a decade.
And even once you picked up the game, running it was a hassle due to incompatibilities with existing operating systems.
All those problems are wiped away with the release of System Shock 2 on GOG, which comes DRM-free (unlike the original game) and fully supports the latest operating systems, including Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8.
Grab it at GOG for $9.99.
