Bethesda has recently published the last of its three short stories for The Elder Scrolls Online, “The Stories of Tamriel”, this one subtitled “Travails and Triumphs of a Monarch”. These three stories offer a little background information on each of the leaders of the three alliances that feature in the game: the Ebonheart Pact, the Aldmeri Dominion, and the Daggerfall Covenant.
Displayed – in typical Elder Scrolls style – in yellowed book form, this story tells us about His Majesty King Emeric, a Breton who lead the Daggerfall Covenant. At first glance, it doesn't look like the few pages say anything about the covenant itself, that is, how Emeric came to lead an alliance of Bretons, Redguards, and Orcs. But we do learn about his marriage to Princess Maraya, which is probably the “alliance by marriage” that the website mentions when discussing the Daggerfall Covenant elsewhere. Besides, if you want less of the personal story and more information on the covenant itself, you can just read the “Ask Us Anything” Bethesda held on the very subject last month.
If you want to learn a little more about Jorunn the Skald-King, the Nord who leads the Nords, Dark Elves, and Argonians under the Ebonheart Pact, then check out the first of the three short stories. To read about Ayrenn, Matriarch of the Aldmeri Dominion – i.e., High Elves, Wood Elves, and the Khajiit – then you'll want the second story.
Does this focus on lore convince you that The Elder Scrolls Online will live up to the high standards set by the previous Elder Scrolls games? Or are you waiting for news from the beta to make up your mind?
