Steam certainly has had a good year what with the ever jumping numbers of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and the consistent numbers of their other flagship titles Counter Strike GO and DOTA 2. Now we’ve learned that the massive PC publisher and gaming platform has released a total of 6,000 titles – and there is still more than a month left before 2017 ends.
The news comes from comes from industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, who works for Niko Partners. As Ahmad points out, 6,000 titles, that’s more than the 4,207 released in 2016, and almost as many titles as were release between Steam’s launch in 2005 and 2015.
A quick update to the number of games released on Steam chart.
This is as of early November. Year isn't over yet and there have already been more than 6,000 games released on Steam this year.

A good portion of all the sales are thanks to Steam’s new system called Steam Direct which essentially replaced Steam Greenlight as a more effective filter to prevent unfinished games from making it’s way to the platform. However, even with the 100$ fee to publish your game, it seems like it didn’t really work as an effective deterrent within three months of its launch, more than 1,300 games were published.
With 2017 coming to a close – I wonder just how many more games will be released. No doubt with the Christmas season we will see an influx of holiday-themed titles. Can we hit the 7,000 mark by the end of the year?
