Paper Mario Joins the List of Club Nintendo Rewards

February 12, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

The new prizes are exclusive to the U.S.

Nintendo has announced four new prizes that have been added to the list of Club Nintendo rewards, all downloadable games: Bird & Beans (100 coins), Metal Torrent (150 coins), Paper Mario (200 coins), and Kirby Super Star (150 coins). These games will be available for members of Club Nintendo who have enough coins to their name until March 10th, so anyone interested as a month to purchase or build up the balance to do so.

For those who don't know, Club Nintendo is a registration system. Any new Nintendo console or game has a code so it can be registered online (except for the Wii U, which requires you to link up your Nintendo Network ID with your Club Nintendo account to achieve the same effect), and registering nets you an amount of coins that's relative to the cost of the product. Once you have enough coins, you can exchange them for prizes varying from physical products with Nintendo characters on to actual copies of other Nintendo games (generally much older ones). It's a clever way to convince people that buying new is better, and also to get those buyers to fill out the survey that is required to receive the coins for each new product registered.

Of course, the deal is made all the sweeter for you guys in North America, because your selection of prizes is awesome. As well as these four new games, you can choose from things like an Animal Crossing fan or playing cards, Super Mario shoelaces, and even a tee shirt. Here in the U.K., we get wall stickers, plain DSi socks, and “adhesive notepads” (think Post-its). I'm not bitter or anything, but I just registered my Wii U and I'd quite like a free downloadable copy of Paper Mario to go along with it. A Yoshi cleaning cloth just isn't quite the same.
