Chris Taylor of Gas Powered Games has posted an update on Kickstarter to inform supporters of the Wildman's cancellation.
The project garnered just shy of the $550k halfway mark in pledges, far short of the $1.1 million Gas Powered Games needed to develop the title.
Taylor wrote in his post that the reason for the project's termination was simple: "At this point, it makes sense for us to focus our attention on other ways to keep Gas Powered Games running," he wrote. "Unfortunately, we are unable to share any specifics in public. When we have news to share, we will be posting it on our site."
"We are profoundly grateful to those of you who backed this project and Gas Powered Games. Your passion and hard work put us in a position to write this exciting new chapter in the history of GPG."
This can mean either one of two things. Either Gas Powered Games is closing shop, or it's managed the impossible by being acquired by a publisher or games development studio. Although we were lead on to believe that the studio would be dead without the Kickstarter's success, there is a slim chance that Gas Powered Games may have found some means to stay alive during the project's final days.
Only time will tell of what is to become of Gas Powered Games and its developers.
