A new trailer for LEGO City: Undercover – this one on the official LEGO YouTube channel – hints at where the game gets its name (spelled wrong in the title for this video – good job folks at LEGO), as we get to see the game's heroic police protagonist Chase McCain actually go undercover. For most of the video, McCain is dressed in a jacket over a white tee, what I think are jeans, and a beanie hat; it's not quite the black and white stripes most of the criminals in the game seem to wear (judging from previous videos) but the intention presumably is for McCain to get chummy with the local ne'er-do-wells.
Unfortunately, things don't seem to go very well. Though it looks like he'll fool the first guy in the video – who challenges him with a, “You? You look like a cop.” – by presenting a photo of himself (flanked by two of his police buddies) with black stripes scribbled over his white clothes, others in the trailer are less easily fooled. “I know you,” one states, “You're that copy from years ago.” Subsequently, we get to see a couple of chase scenes, in cars and on foot alike. Given the heavy focus on vehicles (we also get to see what looks like a bike race), the handling had better be up to scratch.
We also get to see another example of the Wii U GamePad in use, with McCain receiving a video call from a sharply dressed guy called Vinnie Pappalardo. Given the apparent lack of support for the console from other developers, it'll be good if this game manages to prove that the Wii U can provide a new kind of experience for players.
