Capcom seems to have a problem with allowing Japanese players to mingle internationally with their American, European and Australian counterparts, and in all their wisdom decided to implement region locked servers in their upcoming game, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.
The news was confirmed by a Capcom community manager on the publisher's official forums today, who expressed his personal displeasure with the move.
"I'm not thrilled with the servers being split either," wrote Yuri Lindbergh. "I am definitely aware of the demand and feedback, not only in this thread, but also from threads before finding out these bad news; so be sure that I will pass it along. There is no guarantee this will change though."
Community members were disappointed by the decision to segregate the servers, who argued that segmenting the communities doesn't make much sense for the game.
"I have friends in Europe, Australia, and even Japan, and I would very much like to play with them. I don't understand why the MH servers are split when games like Mario Kart 7 weren't," wrote one user, whose complaints were echoed by many others on on the Capcom Unity forums and elsewhere on the internet.
"We've all got friends everywhere on the planet, and we all want to play with them, we have for years now since Tri," wrote another. "I'm still getting a NA Wii U. I'm just super disappointed."
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a Nintendo exclusive for both the Wii U and 3DS and has been confirmed to offer full support for the Gamepad. It's set for release on March 19.
