Focus Home Interactive and Mighty Rocket Studio have announced an all new game called Obscure, which—thanks to reports like this one—will no longer remain in obscurity. Hopefully.
Obscure is described as a "pure, action-rich 2.5D side-scroller" with elements and humor inspired by horror movies. Players can go it alone in single-player or play with friends in local and online co-op mode.
Each of the game's four characters is based on a character trope typical to horror and teen slasher films, all of whom can perform a variety of attacks that allow them to brawl, perform combos, follow-up attacks, and score multipliers.
In addition to the brawler style gameplay, characters can earn experience points to level up their characters, unlocking new weapons, skills, and add new abilities to their arsenal of monster-killing moves. As it's a score-based game, you'll also be able to go back to previous levels to attain a higher score.
According to the developers, the game's multiplayer co-op mode will come with a wide variety of objectives that encourage players to either split up or stick together, depending on what they plan to accomplish.
As you may have noticed, the game's title "Obscure" is the same as that of Hydravision's in the previous decade, and shares some of its original developers. Obscure pays heavy tribute to the older title, and players will get to revisit Leafmore High and encounter some of the previous characters from the series.
The game's announcement comes with the release of a gameplay video showcasing what it's all about, and three screenshots.
Obscure is set for release on the PC, PSN, and Xbox Live this spring.
