In an investors call, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has revealed that Gearbox Software's Borderlands 2 is "on pace" to become the highest-selling game in 2K Games' history.
Since its release in September of last year, Borderlands 2 has managed to shift six million copies across all three platforms. Not only that, but the games Season Pass is doing well, too, though Zelnick hasn't revealed any specific number just yet.
Borderlands 2 continues to expand its audience and remains on pace to become the highest selling title in 2K's history…It has also been the largest contributor to our digitally delivered revenue this year, driven both by strong sales of full-game downloads and high attach rates for the titles out on content, especially the Borderlands 2 season pass.
2K Games, which is owned by parent company Take-Two Interactive, also had another game that's doing very well and that's NBA 2K13. To date, 2K's unopposed NBA sim game has amassed 4.5 million sales, which brings the series' total to an impressive 15 million units since October of 2010.
As a whole, Take-Two Interactive's fiscal year for Q3 of 2012 has been a good one with profits rising to $415.8 million, from $263.3 mllion. This is not only attributed to the key games mentioned, but digita sales also saw a significant jump to 244% year-over-year, which accounted for 23% of the company's overall profits.
With Grand Theft Auto 5 set to release in September, I gather Take-Two's earnings report for that game's fiscal year cycle will turn out even better.
