Wizardry Online Pulled From Steam To Resolve Numerous Technical Issues

February 4, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

Wizardry Online has been pulled from Steam by the game’s developers pending the resolution of the game’s myriad of technical issues.

The verdict is in: Wizardry Online is not a very good game. Namely, the game has a number of unacceptable technical flaws. Wizardry suffers from rubber-banding (that's when the game lags so badly that your characters 'rubberband' from place to place); it takes for a long time to connect to the server; disconnects are often, and occur at random; the game crashes—a lot.

The game was released in such a state on Steam that it immediately received hundreds, if not thousands of complaints over its state on the now offline Steam discussion forums for the game, as well as the official Wizardry Online forums on Sony Online Entertainment, which hosts the game.

Due to the complaints, or perhaps as a pre-emptive move by Sony Online Entertainment, the game is no longer available on Steam, where it was released on last week. The community page for Wizardry Online is the only evidence it ever existed on Steam.

The game's community manager, Piestro, stated that the game was pulled at the request of Sony Online Entertainment to give them time to deal with the issues.

"Once we’re comfortable with where we are at we’ll put it back," he wrote on the game's official Twitter account.

He further stated on the forums that it wasn't Steam or Valve that made the decision to pull the plug. "It wasn’t steam, we’ve removed the download for the time being as we resolve the current issues," he wrote.
