Xbox One: Original Xbox Backwards Compatability Games List (& How It Works)

October 24, 2017 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Classic Original Xbox titles are now available on the Xbox One family of consoles, including Knights of the Old Republic and Ninja Gaiden Black.

Original Xbox game backward compatability has finally arrived on the Xbox One. A limited set of games have been added to the backwards compatability programs as of October 24th, and Phil Spencer says more games are on the way — although the games list will be much more limited than the massive list of 360 games available on the Xbox One console.

Most of the games selected, Phil Spencer says, are available digitally due to the low availability of Xbox Original game discs. That’s probably a wise move.

For more Xbox One backwards compatability, find the full list of Xbox 360 games right here.

  • The King of Fighters Neowave
  • Ninja Gaiden Black
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
  • Psychonauts
  • Red Faction 2
  • Sid Meier’s Pirates
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Everything You Need To Know

Xbox Original backwards compatibility is not significantly different from standard Xbox 360 backwards compatability.

  • How To Download & Play:
    • If you own a game digitally, it will automatically appear in the “Ready To Install” section.
    • If you have a disc, insert the disc into your Xbox One console and the game will begin downloading automatically.
      • If you use a disc, the disc will need to be inserted every time you play on your Xbox One console, ever after the download is complete.
  • Functionality | What You Need To Know
    • Xbox One features like DVR and broadcasting are supported for Xbox Original titles.
    • In-Game Marketplace, Online Multiplayer and other Xbox Live services are not supported for Original Xbox titles.
    • Co-op, System Link and Party Play are still available.
      • System Link and co-op can be played on all Xbox consoles — Original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X.
    • No achievements are available for Original Xbox titles.

Last, it’s important to know that game saves will not be transferred to your Xbox One console. New save files will be created after starting a new game. New save files created on the Xbox One console can be transferred to any other Xbox One family of consoles.
