Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio behind games such as No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw, has just been acquired by GungHo Online Entertainment.
For those unfamiliar with GungHo Online Entertainment, they're the company that owns MMORPG Ragnarok Online and Puzzle & Dragons. To date, Grasshopper Manufacture is the third high-profile acquistion by the company as it also bought out Grandia developers Game Arts and Akiba's Tip maker Acquire.
In the press release, GungHo states that the combination of Grasshopper Manufacture's planning and development power aggregated with GungHo Online Entertainment's forte in online games and management will allow them to produce high quality content.
Last year, GungHo also opened an American division: GungHo Online Entertainment America, where they publshed Dokuro and will soon release Ragnarok Odyssey in Europe.
Grasshopper Manufacture has been known to make quirky action games with famed Japanese developer Suda 51 at the forefront of things. Their most current big retail game was Lollipop Chainsaw which was published by Kadokawa Games. The studio's latest project, which is Killer is Dead, is also being published by Kadokawa with a scheduled release later this year.
