Black Ops 2, League of Legends Added to MLG Winter Season

January 24, 2013 by Alex Co

Major League Gaming has announced two of the three games for its Winter season!

Major League Gaming (MLG) has announced the first two out of three games that will be added to its Winter Season. Entering the fray are Riot Games' MOBA smash-hit, League of Legends; which will be joined by Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

According to MLG CEO and co-founder Sundance DiGiovanni, "The global phenomenon of competitive gaming has reached a tipping point and I believe 2013 is going to be the most pivotal time for eSports," and adds, "The Winter Season includes games built for competitive play, an event format and production level unparalleled in the industry and a passionate global fan base that continues to grow. Combine that with our TV-esque online broadcast, and we have everything needed for MLG and eSports to dominate the entertainment industry and appeal to an even broader audience."

The upcoming Winter Season, which will culminate at the Winter Championships at the Dallas Convention Center on March 15-17, will have $50,000 for Black Ops 2 players, with $20,000 going to the winner. Online qualifiers are being held through MLG's GameBattles service for North America and European players.

While the third game is still unannounced, it's heavily speculated that Blizzard's StarCraft 2 will be tasked to round the lineup out.

For those interested in watching the events unfold, TwitchTV will be distributing broadcasts for the year, and spectator passes will be available this coming February.

Any of you a fan of competitive gaming? What do you make of these additions so far?
