Chillingo has released a gameplay trailer for its upcoming iOS game Pixel People, a city-building game in which you rebuild civilisation after the destruction of the Earth. The interesting twist in this one is that your residents are all clones, and it seems like the player will genetically modify them to fill certain roles in this new, Utopian civilisation in space. From the game's website:
“With the help of your trusty assistant you welcome new clones to your city at the arrival centre, then it’s up to you to find them a job. Create residents by combining the skills of others, build them a place to put their new skills to use and watch your Utopia grow!”
It looks like you combine genes from existing civilians to create the roles you need: engineer + artist = designer, for example. But at least some of these combinations will be a mystery to you when you start playing, so you'll have to experiment to discover how things work. This actually sounds like a lot of fun, which is why despite the overly colourful pixellated aesthetic that just reminds me of a Facebook game I'll actually be giving this one a go.
