As discovered by Superannuation and reported on Kotaku, Quantic Dream – the studio behind Heavy Rain and upcoming Beyond: Two Souls – seems to have registered a domain for a PS4 game. “SingularityPS4.com” follows the same pattern for URLs the team has used before, i.e. with “heavyrainps3.com” and “beyondps3.com”, and the inclusion of the platform is apparently something Sony likes, for obvious reasons. And here is another suggestion that Sony will continue to name its consoles sensibly, thankfully resisting the urge to try to make the next generation seem more revolutionary than it is by doing away with numbers (New iPad, anyone?).
So what could this game be? Superannuation points out that David Cage – founder of Quantic Dream – said in an interview that the Kara tech demo (pictured above) was influenced by a book from futurist Ray Kurzweil called The Singularity is Near, so it's possible we'll get to see more of the dystopian world hinted at in that video.
Whatever the game is about, it's unlikely it will actually be called just Singularity, since Activision released a game with that name back in 2010. This probably isn't a codename, however, since there'd be no point registering a domain for it if so; we'll probably end up with something called Singularity: subtitle of some kind instead.
Are you excited to find out what Quantic Dream achieves with the improved power of the PS4? What kind of game would you want to see?
