Forthog the Orc Slayer DLC, originally created to raise donations for the late Michael Forgey’s widow and child will be released for free.
When Forthog was first announced the idea seemed like a wholesome way to immortalise the developer and assist the family financially. The DLC was to be sold globally and all profits would be donated Forgey’s family. The promotion was only promoted in the US, bringing the question into play regarding what would happen regarding the profits gained from outside the US. The team later released an untimely Tweet, which stated that international earnings wouldn’t be donated to the family.
In an official message, Warner Bros. has now acknowledged the mistake and have apologized to the Forgey family and fans for the confusion they have caused. The DLC will now be released for free and Warner Bros will make a donation towards the family.
“To ensure the two original aims are still met and to provide transparency to the community, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will instead make a donation directly to the Forgey family”,the message reads. “The DLC will be withdrawn from sale and will be a free download for owners of Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Anyone who has purchased the DLC will receive a full refund.”
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is slated for a release on October 10 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
