Today's latest batch of supposed Xbox 720 specs that someone was able to mysteriously get their hands on is courtesy of a not so known site called vgleaks.com. But if what they say is true, then their exclusive will definitely put them on the map.
Though ultimately, not a whole lot of what they have to say about the Durango (which is the codename for the next Xbox) is all that mind-blowing. Starting from the top: the CPU is supposedly eight-cores powerful and runs at 1.6GHz. Just like it's primary competition, the upcoming PlayStation 4, or Orbis, which is the supposed codename of Sony’s new console.
Along for the ride is a custom D3D11.1 class 800-MHz GPU, 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM, 32MB of fast embedded SRAM, and the part that will make everyone go "yeah, whatever", which is the 50GB 6x Blue-ray optical drive (remember, Blu-ray is a Sony thing). All the other details are fairly pedestrian, and that's the thing: if anyone was to make a wild guess as to what the Next Box will have, horsepower-wise, then they would come up with pretty much the same things.
The only real surprise is some kind of dedicated multichannel echo cancellation (MEC) hardware for the Kinect. Otherwise, and once again, there's really nothing to see here folks. At this point, the Durango sounds more like some kind of generic gaming PC than anything else. Which is why vgleaks.com's info seems so plausible to many.
Eurogamer did some investigating, and according to their sources, it's legit. But the timeliness of the info is what's being questioned. Though as they noted, since it takes a while for game hardware to get finalized, the final product might end up being awfully close to what we've been told as well.
