Double Whammy: Apple Reveals iPhone 8 & iPhone X

The biggest Apple yet.

No longer do Apple loyalists have to wait for their answer to Samsung’s infinity display screen. The tech giant finally unveiled both the iPhone 8 and iPhone X at its special event keynote, where thatgamecompany’s (Flow, Journey, Flower) CEO Jenova Chen announced a brand new ‘romantic social adventure game’ called Sky for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Apple also introduced the Apple Watch 3, a third generation smartwatch that lets you surf the web and make calls, and a 4K version of Apple TV.

Like Microsoft, Apple has skipped over number nine and gone straight for double digits. Stylised as ‘iPhone X’, Apple insists it should be pronounced as ‘iPhone 10’. iPhone X is the first iPhone with a completely touch screen display, and ditches the home button for an intuitive single swipe motion to access the main screen.

iPhone 8

iPhone X

  • 5.8-inch Super Retina screen
  • Weight – 174 grams
  • Dimensions – 143.51 x 70.87 x 7.62 mm
  • A11 Bionic chip – dual-core design chip for enhanced object recognition, extraordinary augmented reality performance in games
  • AirPower mat for wireless iPhone and Apple Watch charging
  • TrueDepth Camera with Face ID recognition feature used as password protection, and added security for Apple Pay
  • Faster 12MP sensor plus new colour filter and optical zoom
  • Portrait Lighting for studio quality lighting effects when taking selfies
  • Animoji – Animated emojis you can bring to life with 50 different facial movements
  • Efficient power saving – battery lasts up to two hours longer than iPhone 7

iPhone 8 is available to the public on September 22 for $699 USD. Pre-orders begin from September 15.

iPhone X officially releases on November 3 for $999 USD with pre-orders available from October 27.
