PS4, Xbox 720: AMD Video Suggests Next-Gen Consoles Will Support Eyefinity

January 9, 2013

An AMD video suggests that the next generation of consoles will carry support for multi-monitor set-ups.

AMD is showcasing much of its technology at the the Consumer Electronics Show. One of the big things it unveiled was the presence of its AMD Eyefinity technology in the next generation of consoles, colloquially referred to as the Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 4.

In a video released by AMD called "AMD Everywhere", the developer said that gaming, for the company, is not about competition between all the consoles and PCs. The company claims to power all the device types, and is most assuredly referring to the consoles that are currently in development at both Sony and Microsoft.

"You choose how you want to play. The same graphics that makes your console experience great powers a great PC gaming experience, too."

At that part of the video, the developer showcased its AMD Eyefinity technology, which allows for multiple monitor set-ups. It's currently only available on the PC, but the fact that it was brought up during the console announcement would imply that next-gen consoles are equally capable of displaying visuals across multiple screens.

While the video isn't a confirmation of the technology in either console, it certainly stands to reason that any console that's packing a current or next generation AMD graphics card should be capable of delivering everything a PC has to offer.

We'll just have to wait until June this year for Sony and Microsoft to unveil their next generation of devices at E3.
