The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct Gets a Gameplay Trailer

January 1, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

Unfortunately, the video makes this FPS look dull

EDIT: Apparently this trailer is fake, put together from footage shown to IGN. Ben Kuchera on The Penny Arcade Report explains how so many of us (including Activision's social media manager) were fooled. Hopefully when we are shown an official gameplay trailer, it'll look a lot better than this.

Activision has released a new trailer for its upcoming first-person shooter The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, this one focused on actual gameplay. We obviously don't get to see much of the protagonist other than his hands, but we do get to see the variety of weapons he'll be able to carry around. There's neck stabbing, bottle throwing, axe wielding, and – naturally – a shotgun.

Activision is obviously keen to make good use of the success of The Walking Dead comics and TV series, and the game from Telltale Games that won Spike TV's Game of the Year. But after the success of the episodic The Walking Dead game, this looks – to me, at least – a little limp. It's a different genre, naturally, so there'll be far more of a focus on action than on provoking emotion in players, but this trailer makes the game just look plain dull.

What do you think of what we've seen so far? Are you confident in Activision's ability to turn this into a highly rated game? Or, if you're unimpressed, what do you think the developers can do to make it better? Maybe you're just bored of the ongoing zombie trend?
