Diablo 3 Several Thousand Bot Users and Cheaters Banned by Blizzard

December 20, 2012 by Alex Co

Blizzard has banned “several thousand” Diablo 3 users who are using bots or cheating! Read on for details.

If you're one of the many Diablo 3 bot users, you might be wondering why you suddenly can't log in to your account and play normally. Well, as it turns out, Blizzard has gone ban-hammer crazy and has banned "several thousand" Diablo 3 players for using bots and cheating.

The announcement was made on Blizzard's forum where Community Manager Lylirra issued the following statement, which you can read in full below.

We've recently issued account bans to several thousand Diablo III players who were found to be using botting programs while playing. In addition to undermining the spirit of fair play, botting, hacking, and other forms of cheating can also cause technical problems with the game as well as contribute to performance issues with the Battle.net service. To learn more about our exploitation policy for Diablo III and how it may affect your gameplay, please visit our official support site.

As always, maintaining a stable, safe, and enjoyable online environment for legitimate players is very important to us, and we'll be continuing to keep watch on Battle.net and take action as needed. In the meantime, if you wish to report the possible use of botting programs to Blizzard, please see this thread for more information. (We will also be adding the ability for players to report this kind of behavior directly through the game client in a future patch.)

The same post also reveals that Blizzard will be adding an ability for users to report cheaters and those who use bots in an upcoming patch.

Bots and cheaters in Diablo 3 are a much bigger deal compared to other multiplayer games since real world money runs through its auction house.

Are you still playing Diablo 3? Have you noticed bots and cheaters littering about? Can this move by Blizzard stem the cheating or is it a tad too late at this point?
