Bill Introduced To Study Effect Of Violent Video Games

December 19, 2012 by Matt Hawkins

The Sandy Hook blame game is coming to congress.

The Huffington Post reports that West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller has introduced a bill to Congress that seeks to determine the supposed impact that violent video games has on children.

The proposed piece of legislature is, naturally, a reaction to the Sandy Hook tragedy. Rockefeller states:

"This week, we are all focused on protecting our children. At times like this, we need to take a comprehensive look at all the ways we can keep our kids safe. I have long expressed concern about the impact of the violent content our kids see and interact with every day."

The bill would have the National Academy of Sciences to lead the investigation and also produce a report that would detail that their findings within a 18 month timeframe.

Rockefeller believes that recent court decisions that have determined games to be no more dangerous than children's cartoon to be in error:

"Parents, pediatricians, and psychologists know better. These court decisions show we need to do more and explore ways Congress can lay additional groundwork on this issue. This report will be a critical resource in this process."

Though someone needs to tell Rockefeller that the majority of studies relating to violent games and violent behavior among players, which have been conducted by numerous pediatricians and psychologists, have all come to the same conclusion as the parties that he's rallying against.
