Developer Massive Damage Inc is back with its special brand of pixellated sci-fi RPG in Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition. The game, which released just days ago, serves as an extension of last year’s Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander, a tactical management sim about space exploration and first contact with aliens.
Halcyon 6 is a starbase marooned in Terran space. Left behind by a mysterious race and forgotten to the ages and time itself, Halcyon 6 has become derelict. But when a hostile alien force sets its sights on invading Earth, time starts ticking again. To stop the colonisation, you need to become the ultimate diplomat, forging alliances, salvaging scant resources and researching novel technologies in the New Terran Federation to help rebuild the starbase.
There are several new additions in Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition, including a new ship loadout, updated skill tree, extra difficulty mode, and a more ergonomically designed user interface.
Massive Damage explained that it “meticulously retraced” the steps taken to create Starbase Commander, and turned to community feedback to make sure Lightspeed Edition reached its peak potential.
Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition is out now through Steam (PC, Mac and Linux. Players who’ve already purchased Starbase Commander can pick it up for free, otherwise it’s selling for $13.49 USD.
