If you thought that the Mechromancer was Gearbox's only additional character for Borderlands 2, you'd be pretty mistaken. Apparently, and this is new, Randy Pitchford says that the studio is currently developing another playable character.
Presumably, the new character will be available for download as a paid DLC. If it's anything like the Mechromancer, which was sold separately, it also means that the Season Pass DLC won't be inclusive of the character.
There's no other details beyond Pitchford's statement confirming the development of the character, which he made on Twitter in response to some guy in a hat.

We'll be following up on its development with 2K Games and Gearbox.
