Add Rockstar Games to the mix of studios now actively hiring for next-gen development, as the company is now hiring various people to develop a brand-new "cutting-edge" game engine for next-gen platforms.
Over on Rockstar North's official site, a job listing for a Core Engine Programmer position states they're currently seeking "an experienced programmer to focus on core engine development," and in the same job posting adds, "this is an exciting opportunity to develop cutting-edge architectures and high performance systems for current and next-gen platforms."
Not only that, there's also a job ad for a Physics Programmer; that, while doesn't mention next-gen, does state "this is an exciting opportunity to develop cutting-edge physics and collision systems and use them in creative and novel ways." I don't know about you, but "fun and creative ways" are right up Grand Theft Auto's alley, no?
Could this be a precursor for Grand Theft Auto 6? I wouldn't take bets against that. Of course, it's worth mentioning that Rockstar does have a few other IPs in its stable. So this could very well be a next-gen Red Dead or Max Payne game. Nonetheless, whatever game it may be, color us excited.
Rockstar's upcoming game is, of course, none other than the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5, which will ship in spring of 2013 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
