The UKIE report that revealed Black Ops 2 to be top of the UK charts for another week, with Far Cry 3 in second, was primarily focused on software. But Chart-Track has more information on the hardware side of things, including details on sales of the new Wii U in the UK.
Of the three Wii U packs available, the most popular was the Premium 32GB Pack with Nintendo Land, with 60% of customers opting to go for this mid-range deal. The high proportion of customers buying this pack presumably contributed to the relatively high position of Nintendo Land in the charts – while limited stock of consoles presumably prevented any Wii U exclusives from making it into the top ten, Nintendo Land did make it to number eleven.
The 8GB Basic Pack was only sold to 10% of Wii U customers, presumably because of the small hard drive and lack of any accompanying software. The ZombiU Premium Pack made up the remaining 30% of Wii U sales, which helped ZombiU net the title of “best-performing 3rd party launch title”, something Ubisoft also managed back with Red Steel on the Wii.
Finally, Chart-Track has a word for those who would complain about the launch line-up for the Wii U. Apparently, it actually has more launch titles than any other home console that has been launched in the UK, with 24 games spread over eleven publishers available from day one.
