Now You Can Use Your PS2 Controller On A Wii or Wii U

December 3, 2012 by Matt Hawkins

Thanks to a brand new, handy little adapter.

The PlayStation Dual Shock is, easily, one of the most popular gaming input devices of all time. Many love the look and the feel, sitting comfortably in the shadow of the iconic NES controller in terms of popularity. Thought the Xbox 360 controller is also a hit amongst certain gamers, mostly the PC crowd.

So those who are indeed fans might be interested in a brand new adapter that Datel is producing, which allows one to use a the PS2 Dual Shock with both the Wii and Wii U.

According to Siliconera, the conversion kit is due this December 8 in Japan (no word yet on a domestic release) and will cost 1,980 yen, which is around $25 American. For many, the PS2 is perhaps the best solution for a fighting game, aside from a traditional arcade-like stick.

Though Wii U owners in particular might want to take note, since the new system does not allow the use of GameCube controllers, which is a big blow to fans of Super Smash Bros Brawl and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Sure there's the Classic Controller, or Classic Controller Pro. Which is fine, but not good enough for many.

The adaptor should be available via most major online game sellers who deal with Japanese goods in the coming days.
