Most PlayStation Vita owners are in love with Sony's brand new handheld. Yet many are hesitant to recommend it to others, due to ithe platform's extremely shaky future. Despite a steady string of rock solid titles as of late, including Assassins' Creed 3: Liberation and Persona 4 Golden, there are many things holding the system back.
According to one analyst, whose insight comes courtesy of Destructoid, Sony will need to follow Nintendo's lead by cutting the price of the hardware next year if Sony wishes to attract publishers, which has a serious problems since day one for the Vita.
The analyst for Inside Network, Billy Pidgeon, also states that that the proprietary PSVita memory cards are too expensive. Something that virtually all owners of the system can agree upon, even if they are its biggest defenders.
Pidgeon's rather sound advice also address software as well:
"There should be more downloadable software, including inexpensive or free games, and these must be higher quality than popular iOS and Android games. It would in fact be helpful if the best and most popular smartphone and tablet games were also available for download to PS Vita."
Hardly anything noted above is earth shattering, thought it's also nice whenever an analyst says things that actually make sense, which is not often the case. At any rate, and as Destrucotid also points out, the biggest problem here is Sony themselves. They have repeatedly stated a flat out refusal to reduce the price of the system, even though the writing is somewhat on the wall.
The Vita has a certain degree of momentum at the moment, though one must ask how long it will ask. And furthermore, how long it will last in the first place. The ball is Sony's court; they have the power to help the fledgling system thrive. Or perhaps wither away.
