Rebellion has announced that it is now officially working on Evil Genius 2. No, it’s not going to be a remake or a remaster, the upcoming title developed by the guys behind Sniper Elite 2 will be making a full-fledged sequel to the cult classic management/sim game from 2004.
So far there is only a PC version set to release, and I doubt we’ll hear anything regarding console versions anytime soon considering the team only started development on the game in Spring this year.
The success of Sniper Elite has allowed the team to not rely on any form of crowdfunding to get the project off the ground – Evil Genius will developed completely internally using Rebellion’s Asura Engine.
“As some of you may remember, we were very close to announcing this project several years ago,” Rebellion said of the announcement. “Back then, our plan was to crowd-fund a new Evil Genius PC game and we made a series of steps to launching a campaign. After the growing success of the Sniper Elite series and other Rebellion games IP, we started to feel it wasn’t fair to ask fans to fund a new game if we didn’t need them to!”
