While Kratos going to the silver screen isn't exactly new at this point, the fact that Sony has given the green light to the writing team of Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to take "dramatic shifts" when it comes to the Spartan's story is!
In a quick movie update (via Shock till You Drop), the writing duo were able to speak out on the God of War movie adaptation will be different from movies such as the Immortals and the Clash of the Titans which has a similar theme.
According to Dunstan, "those movies can inform God of War to step in a more bold direction," and adds, "Not to join those ranks, but to stand head and shoulders apart like other reinventions have done within that genre. The satisfying element is to look at those movies as a commentary on the genre and now say something different."
Melton also comments how Sony is letting them take "dramatic shifts" when it comes to Kratos' movie debut, adding,"Sony games, you think they'd be sacred about the origin story and all of that, but they were encouraging us to make it different from those movies and if that means going in dramatic shifts, they were cool of it. And they're involved."
So far though, there hasn't been a star cast to portray the badass Spartan, so don't expect the movie anytime soon. If given a choice, would you want Kratos' origin story to be exactly the same as in the games or would you want the movie to deviate from it to give franchise fans a surprise they're not expecting?
Thanks, Polygon
