Leaked information regarding the latest from Bungie, their follow-up to Halo, has just been published by IGN. The outlet was also able to confrim that the information regarding Destiny, the new game, is legitimate. The material was provided by a reader, and was prepared by an advertising agency; it represents "an outside look at Destiny’s plot, key values and more."
First, background information from aforementioned document, verbatim:
"Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it.” Elsewhere in the document, the massive alien ship is referred to as 'the Traveler.'"
The document goes on to describe Destuny as being "fun and accessible to all", one that will be accessible to multiple demographics. Which is why it is assumed that new title may be less mature than Bungie's previous work with Halo. Either that or at least one of the games featuring their new IP will be kid friendly.
Provided that there's more than one game dealing with this new universe, which appears to be the plan. Because the leaked material also states how Bungie's aim is "to create a universe as deep, tangible and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise." So while there might be a rated E Destiny game, there could also be a T rating offering as well. Maybe. Possibly. Hopefully.
Another key detail is how Destiny will be "social at its core." Given how social gaming is all the rage, that's hardly a shocker, but especially if one recalls statements made at last year's Game Developers Conference. A comment made about thier upcoming project being massively multiplayer was immediately dismissed as being a joke. Well, turns out, that wasn't the case after all.
Again, the information above was not originally intended for the public, yet Bungie is taking it all in stride. When asked for comment, they told IGN:
"We’re not quite ready to take the wraps off our next universe, but in light of recent events we thought we’d give fans something a little more official over at Bungie.net. Feel free to drop by and say hello! There’s much more to come."
If one goes to their homepage, a short and sweet blog post can be found, featuring one piece of art from the upcoming project (seen above). The IGN report has several other pieces, from the aforementioned internal document.
