Nintendo E3: New Standalone Yoshi Game Announced

June 13, 2017 by Katrina Filippidis

Yoshi’s debut on Nintendo Switch.

Currently going by the working title of Yoshi™, Yoshi will be starring in a brand new adventure game for the Nintendo Switch. The news was revealed at Nintendo’s recent E3 presentation, and marks the lovable green dinosaur’s latest franchise entry since Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World.

According to the website description, it will be a “new action platforming game” and is set to turn everything you known about sidescrollers upside-down. Nintendo is opting for a new art style in which every world is jazzed up to look like a miniature diorama, and will feature the typical front view screen as well as a hidden ‘flip side’ with alternate perspectives. I’m getting Kirby Triple Deluxe vibes at this point. Yoshi’s aim in each level is to reach a goal point and collect various items, which haven’t been detailed yet. We do know Yoshi™ will support simultaneous co-op for two players much like Yoshi’s Woolly World, and is releasing in 2018.

What do you think about the new Yoshi game? Will it harken back to the days of Yoshi’s Story?

If you missed Nintendo’s E3 broadcast, make sure you check it out on Twitch.
