We're about two days in from Black Ops 2's release but rumors are already cropping up for next year's Call of Duty game. According to an anonymous source (via Siliconera), Activision has been recording voiceover work for Modern Warfare 4. It will once again take place in the Modern Warfare arc and the main protagonist will be "battle-hardened veteran in his mid-thirties with a nihilistic point-of-view."
In addition to that, here are some of the lines an alleged codenamed Ben Burke had to dole out in Modern Warfare 4:
"Reminds you of Phuket, doesn’t it? Only this time the dust gives you cancer… OK, park yourself and get ready. When this thing kicks off, put a hole in anything that moves."
"This is Sentinel Zero One, successful crypto change on C2 net break, requesting immediate update of blue force picture and status of artillery, over. I have you broken and unreadable, I say again, requesting updates to friendly positions and status of arty support. Do you read, over?"
"We’ve got KVA on the move! They’re going to strongpoint the main gate, ETA two mikes! We’re providing support for our heavy rollers! Ready up and let’s move!"
"Goliath, this is Sentinel Zero One! We have enemy armor at the gate, hundred meters north of our position! Requesting close-air grid mark three-one-six!"
There's supposed to be a Somalia scene that was recorded too. In it, John "Soap" MacTavish makes an appearance in a flashback sequence.
So, what makes this rumor more believeable than the rest out there? This source is the same one that leaked parts of Sleeping Dogs script back when it was still known as True Crime: Hong Kong.
Regardless though, treat this one as a rumor still. But to be perfectly frank, would you even be surprised if it indeed was Modern Warfare 4? I think I'd be more curious to know which development team will be behind it. Will it be Infinity Ward or Sledgehammer Games? Or maybe the two studios will join forces once again like for last year's Modern Warfare 3?
