Ubisoft is clearly serious about making movies. Not long ago, it was reported that they were looking to create a big screen adaptation of Assassin's Creed, and according to Variety, their second project will be Splinter Cell, starring Tom Hardy.
Most know Hardy from his role in this summer's Dark Knight Rises, in which he played that movie's main bad guy. Well, for the upcoming Splinter Cell flick, Hardy will be playing the role of the good guy, as he assumes the mantle of series lead Sam Fisher.
No studio as of yet as officially committed to the project, but it is said that there have been talks with both Warner Bros. and Paramount. It was also reported that Eric Warren Singer, best know for his work on The International (plus he also wrote an episode of the Aeon Flux tv series, according to his IMDB page), will provide the screenplay.
Jean-Julien Baronnet, the CEO of the recently established Ubisoft Motion Pictures, states:
"Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills… His involvement in the 'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell' movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike. Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and … we're confident he'll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story … while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans."
