As noted earlier, the video game industry is not doing so hot, with a 25% overall drop in video game revenue from last year. Or at least if you look at just the figures cited by NPD Group, which doesn't cover games sold digitally. Which includes Minecraft, easily one of this year's brightest success stories.
And one which keeps getting brighter: the game's creator, Markus Persson, better known to the world over as notch, tweeted this morning that his indie sandbox sensation has just passed the eight million sales figure on the PC.
It's worth pointing out how the number does not include the XBLA version, which in addition to breaking various records, like becoming profitable within the first hour of its release or overtaking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as the most played game on Xbox Live, has itself broken the one million sales mark not too long ago.
Despite all the Minecraft clones on the Indie Games channel still doing surprisingly well after all this time. Plus, the smartphone version, aka Minecraft: Pocket Edition for Android and iOS, have also passed the one million mark as well. Once again, the so-called signs that the video game industry is not doing so well are exaggerated to say the least.
