Back in June, we reported that EA was "fast tracking" a Need for Speed movie with Dreamworks, Now, the game-to-movie adaptation's plot has been released, as well as a potential actor for the flick.
According to Variety, Dominic Cooper (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is in negotiations to co-star in the movie opposite the flick's protagonist Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad). Cooper, if signed on, will play the other male lead, which will be "an ex-NASCAR driver who uses his connections to the wealthy to create a business rebuilding and modifying supercars."
In addition to Cooper, Imogen Poots, who co-starred in Dreamworks' Fright Night remake is trying to land a deal where she will play an exotic car dealer who does business with both Paul and Cooper — assuming the latter gets the gig.
Fortunately, the Need for Speed movie won't be based on any game's "plot," and will, instead, be based on a script by George Gatins, who developed it with his brother, John Gatins. The report states that the "Story follows an underground racecar driver (Paul) who owns a garage that modifies expensive cars to make them faster for racing. Framed and sent to prison when his best friend is murdered during a race, he seeks revenge upon his release."
I know what you're thinking; it's not the most original script out there, but the game is based on a supercars being chased by police. So, anything is an improvement, right?
Need for Speed the movie is scheduled to hit theaters on February 7, 2014, with EA's own Patrick O'Brien set to produce.
Anyone looking forward to this? Can this just ape The Fast & The Furious' premise and be successful?
