I didn't realise that the '90s is now considered to be historical until I played Dance Central 3, and it was one of the periods to which you must travel back in time looking for the “dance craze” of the decade. Now, here comes The Sims 3, also letting me know that the decade of my childhood is now considered retro enough for inclusion in one of its “stuff” packs.
The pack, which will include outfits and objects to give your Sims a little more variety in their lives and make the game feel that bit fresher, was announced a few weeks ago, but this is the first full trailer we've seen. It shows us objects that can be used to create a disco type environment for the '70s, through to “grunge” outfits to replicate the '90s.
As expected, the '90s outfits just look totally normal to me, so if you don't remember or weren't around at all during that decade you'll have to let me know if “grunge” seems just as wacky to you as the face-painted Sim of the '80s.
Calling on retro ideas like this is a surefire way to attract an older audience. While some might have the impression that The Sims 3 is a game for kids and teenagers, there are plenty of older adults out there playing it too, and this stuff pack is a nod to them.
