Gearbox has released a patch for the Xbox 360 version of Borderlands 2 to deal with the save file disruption experienced by some players after playing online. The only information given on the Gearbox Software Support website is:
11/6/12 Update
Added security to prevent data loss tied to malicious violations of the Xbox Live Code of Conduct through an unsupported third-party program.
The issue saw players losing their save files after playing online with people who had used a program to hack their own save files.
While it will have been annoying for most and upsetting for many who lost their save files this way, it's impressive that Gearbox has managed to fix the problem so quickly, as Chris Faylor – Gearbox's Community Manager – only reported the issue on the Gearbox forums on the 22nd of October, saying:
Recently a few users have begun violating the Xbox Live Code of Conduct by using an external application to maliciously disrupt the experience and sabotage characters of legitimate Borderlands 2 players on Xbox 360.
An update to address this has been released via Xbox Live. For more details, visit http://support.gearboxsoftware.com/e…te-information
We ask that players report any suspicious behavior in Borderlands 2 to [email protected] and provide as much details and documentation of their disrupted experience as possible to assist us in our investigation.
