Farewell Yoko Taro.

Yoko Taro the Game Director of the critically acclaimed hit NieR: Automata, is leaving Platinum Studios shortly after Nier: Automata’s DLC announcement.

In a tweet, Yoko Taro shared an image of image of his desk at Platinum studios stating “Goodbye”.

So far there we are unsure of why he is leaving Platinum Studios, and wonder why he would considering the success of the title so far. Perhaps he was headhunted? Or he is generally moving on to pursue other projects or ideas – but for the time being, we are in the dark.

I haven’t play NieR: Automata as of yet, but judging from the internet’s response Yoko Taro is quite a popular figure and loved figure in the community – to some, he is considered a talented visionary, perfect at his craft. To others he is just another JRPG artist, either way, it’s going to be interesting to see what Yoko Taro takes on in the next couple of months.

If you haven’t played NieR: Automata yet, here is a short description of what to expect:

NieR: Automata is developed by Square Enix and PlatinumGames. It’s a fast-paced action-RPG and a followup to the cult classic NieR released back in 2010. NieR: Automata follows the story of androids 2B, 9S and A2 and their battles to reclaim their land from the “machine lifeforms”

2B is the new main character. A calm and collected all-purpose battle android. She’s a member of an automated infantry squad called “YoRHa”. 2B’s weapon of choice is her sword for close quarter combat and the “pod” support system for anything long range. She is usually seen wearing her standard-issue military visor shown in the trailer below.

NieR: Automata is set in a world where an alien army invaded without any warning. They unleashed “the machines” driving the human race away from Earth forcing them to take refuge on the Moon.

The humans develop an army of android soldiers to fight back against the invading army of “the machines”. Right now, they only managed to slow them down. The YoRHa squad is the latest breed of android infantry and all humanity’s hope hangs on them turning the tide of the war.

NieR: Automata is out now on PS4.
