It seems a Mass Effect movie is slowly becoming a reality as Legendary Entertainment has now tapped a new scribe to pen the RPG's movie adaptation.
Former screenwriter Mark Protosevich (Thor, I Am Legend) is out, and is now replaced by Morgan Davis Foehl. Interestingly enough, Foehl has yet to have one of his scripts produced, but he is the former assistant editor on the FX's drama "Rescue Me," and the Adam Sandler comedy "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry."
In addition to those mentioned, Foehl landed on 2009's Black List for penning "Whatever Gets You Through the Night," and writing an adaptation of the Top Cow comic, "Crosshair."
So, why the faith on this unproven upstart? According to Variety, producers "sparked" on Foehl's take on the project given that he's a "Mass Effect fan," and he's written action pics with a "strong espionage bent" which is "similar" to the overall "plot" of the Mass Effect franchise.
Aside from Foehl, no director or actor has been cast as of press time; although we do know that Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce with Avi and Ari Arad through their Arad Productions outfit. BioWare won't be leaving their franchise to outsiders' hands though as former BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, along with Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson will serve as executive producers.
Can Mass Effect finally break the curse when it comes to game to movie adaptations? For the sake of gamers everywhere, let's hope so.
What would you want to see in a Mass Effect movie and who should play Commander Shepard?
