While leveling your weapon in a Call of Duty game was introduced in Modern Warfare 3, Treyarch seems to be taking it up a notch by allowing "weapon prestiges" in Black Ops 2.
This was revealed by none other than Black Ops 2 Game Design Director David Vonderhaar when he tweeted:
Did you know that you can Prestige any gun two times?”
To make things a little clearer, a Call of Duty fan asked Vonderhaar, "if weapon XP converts to next prestige, will you have to prestige your weapon or will it go back down to 0 or stay at max?" To which Vonderhaar replied, "Stays where we it was. Weapon level and weapon prestige level totally independent of your level. Not reset by level prestige."
Unfortunately, we don't know if prestiging a weapon in Black Ops 2 will net you additional gun camos, insignias or whatnot. Although it would make sense if they did, no?
What else can Treyarch do to make Black Ops 2's multiplayer more compelling? Maybe add a prestige knife to the mix for those who use it a lot?
Black Ops 2 is set for a November 13 release for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3; with the Wii U version dropping on November 18.
