The Shin Megami Tensei series is marking a very important milestone. It is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Atlus announced earlier this year in January that it would be bringing new games to both Switch and 3DS, and it has revealed its venture for the 3DS.
This new project is called Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey. This game is an updated version of the prior release Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, which was an RPG released for DS in 2009. Deep Strange Journey also has a Japanese-language teaser trailer.
Fans can expect the introduction of a mysterious new character named Alex, a new ending path, new artwork, and more, according to a translation by Gematsu. More details will reportedly be revealed in this week’s issue of Famitsu.

What is known about the story, as summarized by Gematsu is as follows:
“Environmental destruction and ethnic conflict… on a future earth where various problems still haven’t been solved, it suddenly appeared.
Schwarzwelt, the ruined land that appeared in the Antarctic, continued to expand while swallowing everything on the earth into nonexistence. This appears to be how the history of mankind will meet its end…
Hoping for humanity’s survival, a Strike Team is sent to this mysterious land. However, the things they witness… will reveal the terrible truth of Schwarzwelt.”
The official website says that Deep Strange Journey will be released in Japan this fall. However this is no word yet where else it will be released and when. This is also true of the “new HD title” that will be coming to Switch.
