My health is running low and the legions of Hades are upon me in great numbers. Skeletons armed to the teeth with swords and shields surround my every direction. I draw one of Kratos' Blades of Exile and pull myself towards the nearest enemy — using the Hyperion Ram skill, I plow through the horde before me and unleash massive devastation with the Cyclone of Chaos. The undead soldiers are shredded limb from limb and when the dust settles, Kratos stands injured, but victorious.
You've played God of War III. If you haven't, I'd suggest doing so, as it is by far one of the most immersive action games I've ever had the pleasure of playing — beating gods to death with my bare hands has never felt more satisfying. If you've played the game, you would know that Kratos comes equipped with a whole slew of special attacks which aid him in killing the gods of Olympus and their countless minions. Here are ten of his best moves, and my personal favorites.
#10 Hyperion Ram
Hyperion Ram – Kratos draws his blades and pulls himself towards an enemy, using the unfortunate bastard as a battering ram, scattering foes unlucky enough to stand in his path.
Performed using the Blades of Exile – Level 1:
Hyperion Ram – Grab an enemy with your blades and pull yourself toward them. L1 + Circle Hyperion Ram (air) – Grab an enemy with your blades and throw yourself toward them. L1 + Circle
#9 Cyclone of Chaos
Cyclone of Chaos – Unleash hell as Kratos swings his chained Blades of Chaos into his surrounding foes, tearing them to pieces.
Performed using the Blades of Chaos – Level 3:
Cyclone of Chaos – 360 spin attack. Hold L1 + square
Cyclone of Chaos (Air) – 360 spin attack in the air. Hold L1 + square
#8 Soul Rip
Soul Rip – With Hades' claws, you can summon the souls of enemies you've slain to aid you in battle. One of my favorite things to do is to rip out the soul of an enemy to attack his allies.
Performed using the Claws of Hades – Level 1:
Soul Rip – Grab an enemy with your claws and rip a soul out of an enemy that will attack others for you. Best for distraction/occupying, building up and maintaining huge combos, very weak damage L1 + Circle
#7 Unending Sorrow
Unending Sorrow – One of the coolest air-based moves in the game allows Kratos to launch enemies into the air, striking them repeatedly as gravity pulls them back down.
Performed using the Claws of Hades – Level 4:
Unending Sorrow – Summon your claws and launch foes into the air with this powerful strike Hold L1 + Triangle
#6 Augean Stampede
Augean Stampede – There's few things cooler than having a pair of lion's heads for fists and using them to viciously pummel someone into the ground.
Performed using the Nemean Cestus – Level 1:
Augean Stampede – Rush forward and trap an enemy in a quick flurry of punches. Hold Square
Augean Stampede (Air) – A quick flurry of punches that slams the enemy down to the ground. Hold Square in the air
#5 Vicious Maul
Vicious Maul – Imagine if Bruce Lee had fists the size of sledgehammers, and you've got the Vicious Maul. It's speed and sheer brutality will leave enemies destroyed, or broken if they aren't dead yet.
Performed using the Nemean Cestus – Level 2:
Vicious Maul – Lionheads extend on chains in a 360-degree spinning move, similar to Cyclone of Chaos. L1 + Square
Vicious Maul (air) – When airbourne, Lionheads extend on chains in a 360-degree spinning move, similar to Cyclone of Chaos. L1 + square (in air)
#4 Crushing Strike
Crushing Strike – It lets Kratos slam the ground with his fists, unleashing explosive force that scatters enemies into the air.
Performed using the Nemean Cestus – Level 4:
Crushing Strike – Lionheads extend on chains out to each side, then slam together in front of Kratos. L1 + Triangle
Crushing Strike (air) – One lionhead lowers to the ground, and Kratos pulls himself down to punch the ground with the other, causing a shockwave. L1 + Triangle (in air)
#3 Furious Contempt
Furious Contempt – If you're mad and you don't care what button you press, this combo move (which requires that you tap the square button repeatedly) will b sure to please you, as it turns Kratos' electrified Nemesis Whip into a storm of sharp edges.
Performed using the Nemesis Whip – Level 1:
Furious Contempt – Quick combo that damages all surrounding enemies. Square, Square, Square, Square, Square
#2 Surging Lash
Surging Lash – It's one part Indiana Jones, and one part Nikolai Tesla, as Kratos delivers a deadly jolt of electricity into a single target with his deadly whip.
Performed using the Nemesis Whip – Level 1:
Surging Lash – Whip an enemy, delivering a deadly shock. L1 + Circle
#1 Deadly Reprisal
Deadly Reprisal – Few moves look more impressive than the Deadly Reprisal, which hits all enemies in Kratos' path.
Performed using the Nemesis Whip – Level 4:
Deadly Reprisal – Kratos leaps forward, hitting all enemies in his path. L1 + Triangle
Deadly Reprisal (Air) – Slash enemies back down to the ground and slash again. L1 + Triangle, hold to continue spinning blades on ground, release to slash.
