Instead of tracking down the very best gear, you’ll need to craft, enhance, and hunt to increase the randomly-generated items that drop all over the haunted Japanese islands of Nioh. Because they’re so similar, we just have to compare Nioh to Dark Souls — but how you acquire armor sets is (mostly) totally different. There’s very little armor found in the environment here, and you’ll find tons of different versions of the same outfit as you progress. The loot system shares more with Diablo than Dark Souls, and that’s definitely an interesting change of pace.
But, while most weapon and armor are random drops, certain gear can only be collected from a specific source; mission completion rewards, special treasure chests, unique enemy drops, or even random drops from specific bosses — there are plenty of unique armor sets and weapons available in Nioh. Here’s how you can get your foreign hands on each set.
Where To Get All The Best Armor Sets | Unique Gear Locations
[Work-in-Progress: Check back later for more gear locations.]
Most of the armor and weapons in Nioh are randomly dropped by enemies or bosses, but some special sets are unlocked by completing missions, or are only available to collect when defeating very specific bosses. Here we’ll list all the unique armor / weapons available in Nioh, and how to acquire them.
Master Swordsman Set
- Mission: The Grimmest Blades
- How to Collect: Unlocks in the Omi Region after completing all previous Dual-Swords Dojo missions (and earning 500k proficiency) — defeat the boss for a random chance at these armor pieces.
Demon King (National Unity) Set
- Mission: The Demon King Revealed / A Meeting on the Other Shore
- How to Collect: Drops from the Oda Nobunaga boss battle in “The Demon King Revealed” — also drops during the sub-mission “A Meeting on the Other Shore” where you’ll fight Nobunaga and his wife at the same time.
Ebony Set
- Mission: The Demon King Revealed / The Samurai from Sawayama
- How to Collect: Drops from the four repeat bosses in the arenas surrounding the central keep of the demonic castle, in “The Demon King Revealed.” Will also drop from the Ebony Samurai himself.
Daiichi Daiman Daikichi Set (Gallantry)
- Mission: A Defiled Holy Mountain
- How to Collect: Defeat the boss at the end of “A Defiled Holy Mountain” for a chance at this set. Randomly drops, so may require multiple boss defeats.
Kaido Maru Set
- Mission: The Source of Evil / Greater Demon Hunting
- How to Collect: Drops from regular Yokai enemies in “The Source Of Evil” mission. Also drops in the “Greater Demon Hunting” sub-mission.
Greater Good Set
- Mission: Desperate Retreat / Sekigahara
- How to Collect: Available in the sub-mission “Desperate Retreat” and a reward from the main mission “Sekigahara”.

- Mission: Sekigahara
- How to Collect: Drops from the second boss of the main mission “Sekigahara”.
Justice Ministry Set
- Mission: Sekigahara

Saika’s Yatagarasu Set
- Mission: Immortal Flame
- How to Collect: Drops from the boss found in the main mission “Immortal Flame” — this mission also rewards one part of the Fanatic Set.
Fanatic Set (Legendary Warrior)

Yagyu Set

- How to Collect: Randomly drops from the Yagyu Sekishusai boss fight, which is only available in the Training menu.
Warrior of the East Set

Onmyo Mage Set
- Mission: The Demon of Mount Hiei
- How to Collect: Most of the parts of this set are dropped after completing the main mission “The Demon of Mount Hiei”.
Red Demon Set
- Mission: Demon Hunting / The Red Oni of the Li
- How to Collect: Complete this sub-mission to unlock the Kote and Kabuto. The rest are dropped by Li Naomasa during his boss battle in the sub-mission “The Red Oni of the Li” — like other bosses, you may have to defeat him multiple times to get all the gear drops.
Genji Set
- Mission: The Battle of Ohashi Bridge
- How to Collect: Defeat the Revenant in this mission to collect most of the set. Might require multiple return visits to get everything.
Gyousha Set
- Mission: Spider Nest Castle
- How to Collect: This set is a random drop in the region, but it can also be found in certain treasure chests in the Spider Nest Castle mission. Climb up the well from the bottom of the spider cave and follow the path down. Two set pieces are on the corpse. Two more parts are on a corpse up the same path, around the stable on the left. The last parts are in the castle keep. Climb the ladder in the center near the shrine and go left in the hallway.
Kingo Set
- Mission: The Conspirators
- How to Collect: Completing The Conspirators in the Chugoku Region rewards you with the Kingo Set blueprints, allowing you to craft the armor at the blacksmith. For these pieces, you’ll need to collect materials that only the Great Centipede boss drops — the boss is found at the bottom of the Silver Mines Writhes main mission.
Hattori Hanzo Set
- Mission: The Way of the Ninja (Adept)
- How to Collect: Complete the Chugoku Region main missions to unlock this Dojo training mission. In it, you’ll battle Hattori Hanzo — you’ll need to defeat him multiple times to get the full set. The armor pieces that drop are random each time.
Genius Strategist Set
- Mission: The Way of the Warrior (Adept)
- How to Collect: Complete all the main missions in the Chugoku Region to unlock this Dojo training mission. All the pieces drop from the Marume Nagayoshi boss. To get all the pieces, you’ll need to fight him multiple times — the pieces and weapons you get are random.
Saika Clan Set
- Mission: The Ocean Roars Again
- How to Collect: From the second Shrine, go through the illusory wall shortcut on the left to enter the ceremony area with the third bonfire. On the left, there’s a smaller room with a treasure chest containing many of the Saika Clan pieces.
Ninja Set
- Mission: The Way of the Ninja (Novice)
- How to Collect: Simply complete the Way of the Ninja submission in the Dojo. It’s available after completing the first Main Mission in the Kyushu Region, so it’s available right after you gain access to the world map.
Crusader Set
- Mission: Tower of London
- How to Collect: In the area with the pair of armored knights, enter through the open gates — there are two treasure chests in the exterior section that always drop parts of the Crusader Armor set.
- You can also kill the pair of crusaders at the tower entrance that leads up to the Shrine and the Derrick boss. They will randomly drop Crusader armor parts.
Raging Bull Set
- Mission: Finder’s Keeper’s
- How to Collect: Reward for completing the Finder’s Keeper’s sub-mission in the Kyushu region.
Warrior of the West’s Honour Set
- Mission: The Spirit Stone Slumbers
- How to Collect: Randomly dropped by the final boss of the mission, Tachibana Muneshige. You’ll need to defeat him multiple times to get all the drops — or battle him again in his sub-mission. Beware, the sub-mission battle against Muneshige is significantly harder.
More sets coming soon!
