Shigeru Miyamoto has shut down on any notion that the Super Mario Galaxy Movie was setting up for a Super Smash Bros. movie.
Last week, Nintendo and Illumination Pictures shocked everyone with the revelation that Star Fox’s Fox McCloud would be in the movie. This follows an earlier reveal that Pikmin were also making an appearance.
Miyamoto said this when he was asked about the idea in an interview with Polygon:
I don’t think you’ll have a situation [where] all Nintendo characters would be joining [together in one film]. As you know, my rule is that Pikmin can appear in any [Nintendo] series.
While a super crossover like that sounds like a dream movie, Nintendo and Illumination would have to deal with the baggage of an ensemble cast.
And there are certainly movies that have managed that balance well, but maybe a few cameos are just a bunch of cameos.
