The Kodama hunt continues into the Kinki Region of Nioh. This is the third region, putting us about 50% of the way through the game, and raising the Kodama count to a cool 75. There are 25 Kodama per region, and like the last two areas, these Kodama are completely unique to the region — you’ll only upgrade the blessings of the shrines available in Kinki, and when you reach the fourth region, you’ll have to start up another collection.
The Kinki Region sends our hero to spooky castles, frozen wastelands, and demon-infested peaks. The areas only get more dangerous from here, and all the blessing benefits you’ll unlock for tracking down the shrine spirits will make life easier as you explore. Our favorite blessing for long sessions is the elixir drop rate upgrade, making enemies far more likely to drop elixirs as you fight to the next life-saving shrine.
Kodama Locations [Kinki]
Note: Kodama are glowing-green Yokai that increase one of five “blessings” at the shrine: Amrita drop rate increase, weapon drop rate increase, armor drop rate increase, elixir drop rate increase, and crafting material drop rate increase. All Kodama are specific to their region, and will not upgrade shrines in other regions. There are 25 Kodama in each region.
Main Mission: Spider Nest Castle
- Kodama #1: Go up the spiderweb ramp and drop into the first courtyard where you encounter a giant spider. In the back-left corner, look behind the lookout tower.
- Kodama #2: Take the stairs up (with the rolling stone trap) to reach the next upper level of the castle. There’s a building with a Yokai summon on the left. Look behind this building to spot a Kodama.
- Kodama #3: From the previous Kodama, drop down onto the building with the hole in the roof. Go to the front of the house and drop onto the tiny ledge over the door. There’s a Kodama here, and if you fall you’ll need to circle around and attempt to drop down again.
- Kodama #4: At the second giant spider courtyard, go left from the pond and follow the rocky path down and right until you reach a cave entrance. Look between the rock wall and the house to find this Kodama.
- Kodama #5: Enter the large house with the residence key, and then circle around to the kitchen to find a path leading to the backyard shed. In the corner, right of the shed, there’s a Kodama.
- Kodama #6: Drop down into the wall to the left after exiting through the side-gate of the large residence where you’ll collect the Key to the Castle Gates. Enter the second chamber of the spider cave and look along the right wall.
- Kodama #7: Enter the area with the ghostly spawns and the large orange spiderweb on the tower near the entrance, up the ramp path from the exit to the spider cave. Look behind the building to the right.
- Kodama #8: Get up to the top of the castle. Before entering the keep, look in the back-left corner filled with eggs.
- Kodama #9: Inside the keep, go up to the second floor then drop down onto the spiderweb platform below. Climb the ladder in the interior room and check the right side of the hallway.
Main Mission: Falling Snow
- Kodama #10: Right at the start, go right and look along the bamboo trees in the corner. It’s obscured by overgrown plants, but the Kodama is there.
- Kodama #11: Use the snow ramp inside the building to reach the roof, then drop down on the side with a ladder. Continue down the path to a set of closed double-doors and turn right. In the ruins, look along the left edge to find this spirit.
- Kodama #12: Continue along this path. Go through the ruined gate, turn right and go through the building to the frozen backyard. Look behind the fence on the right.
- Kodama #13: From the previous Kodama, follow the left path from the building. Go through the gate, and turn right as you pass the thick bamboo to find a patch of overgrown plants. The Kodama is hiding here.
- Kodama #14: Moving on, climb the ladder to the nearby roof and drop down. Follow the snowy path, drop into the courtyard and smash the ice crystals on the left. Enter the large shrine with the Yokai Realm summoning circle and rush to the backyard. Climb up onto the very large rooftop, drop down at the ladder, continue up to the snow ramp, cross the snow bridge, and find the Kodama on the upper ledge.
- Kodama #15: Enter the large building you passed through to reach Kodama #14. There’s an ice crystal in the back-right corner. Break through, and look in an alcove to the right behind the first ruined structure. There’s a crate blocking the way, so smash it.
- Kodama #16: Continue onward and enter the building on the right, climb the ladder and cross the snow bridge. You’ll be on the other side of a fence — look down from the snowy ridge to spot the Kodama nestled near the fence.
- Kodama #17: Find the hidden wall — follow the back-path from the ice crystals to reach a hidden monster wall. Look for the eyes that appear! As you reach the snowy passage, look for a dead-end on the right filled with breakable boxes.
Main Mission: The Demon of Mount Hiei
- Kodama #18: From the shrine, take the left path and look behind the tree on the right.
- Kodama #19: Go through the crystal (to the right of the Ogre spawn) and take the path up to the building on the right. Go around to the back and look on the ledge.
- Kodama #20: Continue into the village area, go past the walkway bridge and take the steps down into another area with an elder demon. Go down the right alley and reach the structure with a wide set of steps flanked by stone lanterns. Look behind the left lantern.
- Kodama #21: There’s a crystal near Kodama #20. Smash it and drop into the cave through the hole. Smash the crates next to the bookcase to reveal a Kodama.
- Kodama #22: Climb out of the cave and take the path directly right up to another small structure. Go behind this building and look in the corner obscured by a crate.
- Kodama #23: From the previous Kodama, continue up the grassy path to a ruined structure with two more stone lanterns. Look to the left of the entrance door.
- Kodama #24: Turn to face the building on the raised stone foundation. Take the path to the right through the stone brick walls to a small shrine as the path twists right. The Kodama is nestled between the stone wall and the small shrine-like box.
- Kodama #25: Found in the back of the graveyard, further up the hill.
