2017 is right around the corner and it’s time to start marking down some video game releases slated to launch throughout next year. While there are plenty of new titles that have yet to be officially announced, we looked through some upcoming titles we can’t wait to get our hands on. Mass Effect: Andromeda

The next installment of the Mass Effect franchise will be launching during the second quarter of 2017. From what we know so far, Mass Effect: Andromeda will be taking place hundreds of years after the events of Mass Effect 3.
Set within the Andromeda Galaxy, players take on the role of an N7 Special Forces soldier who is set to be a Pathfinder. These Pathfinders are an operative task force that is in charge of discovering new planets for the Human species to colonize.
Vampyr

Development team Dontnod Entertainment really gained mass exposure for their Life is Strange video game release. Now the studio has taken a much darker tone for their next IP, Vampyr. This is a title that is set during the 1918 London Spanish flu pandemic.
Players will take the role of a doctor named Jonathan Reid who happens to be a vampire. Johnathan is fighting his own inner demons that attacks his Hippocratic Oath as he is fully aware of the need to feed on blood of humans in order to survive.
Similar to Life is Strange, it appears that Vampyr will present players with a variety of choices and dialogue options that will likely steer the narrative overall. However, unlike Life is Strange, this is an action role-playing video game where players can battle enemies rather than focusing on communication and choices to progress the campaign story.
Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn will mark as the first IP developed by Guerrilla Games since their release of Killzone in 2004. This is an action role-playing video game title that is set a thousand years into the future.
Mankind has mysteriously fallen with cities only a shell of a once thriving society. Now only small tribal groups remain with giant mechanical beasts roam the world openly. The plot will revolve around a female hunter named Aloy who sets out on a journey to explore the open world, meet with other tribes, and potentially learn of the reason mankind fell to being with.
Kingdom Come Deliverance

Developers Warhorse Studios is attempting to deliver a historically accurate and realistic video game set in the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia. Gamers may notice the period-accurate armor, clothing, combat techniques, and even real-world castle recreations.
In the video game’s campaign, the old king of Bohemia had passed with his heirs lacking the ability and power to secure the throne. Using this opportunity to take advantage and claim the rights, the old king’s brother takes control of Bohemia.
Players will be taking on the role of a blacksmith’s son whose family had been murdered by an invading army. With revenge burning in his heart, the son seeks out his family’s killer while also restoring the throne to the rightful heir.
Nioh

Team Ninja, developers behind Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, has been working hard on Nioh since 2004. The video game is an upcoming action role-playing video game set in the early 1600s. Players take on the role of William, a blonde-haired westerner who arrives in Japan seeking an enemy.
Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom

Ni no Kuni was a real hidden gem when it launched back in 2010 and now fans can enjoy another installment to the franchise this year. Much like the original release, the art style in Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom is very Studio Ghibli though combat has been changed up a bit, giving players the ability to take on the fight themselves.
As for the story, players will follow King Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum who is usurped from his castle. Throughout the game, players will gain a party of characters as they attempt to reclaim the kingdom.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole

South Park is back with South Park: The Fractured But Whole. The game takes place after the events of South Park: The Stick of Truth where the children of South Park takes on the role of superheroes. However, when a fallout between the children begins, two factions are made creating a civil war between two superhero groups.
Nier: Automata

Nier: Automata is an upcoming action role-playing video game. Taking place after the fourth ending of the previously released Nier installment, Nier: Automata follows YoRHa, androids sent to Earth in order to fight the invading force in a proxy war.
Being set in an open world environment, players will control multiple characters with combat mainly focused on melee weapons. Unfortunately, while Japan has a confirmed release date within 2017, a specific western release date was not officially revealed.
Persona 5

The Persona series has always been a popular JPRG with a strong following and the fifth main installment looks incredible. Set in modern times, players take on the role of a high school student, in this case, a voiceless protagonist, as he joins a team to fight off enemies between two worlds.
Even if you’re not a fan of JRPG video games, there’s a good chance that you’ll be hooked onto the series. So far, the video game is already available in Japan and has received critical acclaim.
Divinity Original Sin II

Taking place centuries after the first Divinity, Divinity Original Sin II will play out in present time. Overall, the game follows a group of four sorcerers who embark on a quest to defeat Bishop Alexandar after he declares all Sorcerers to be criminals.

Taking place hundreds of years before Mount & Blade: Warband, players will witness the decline of the Calradian Empire and the formation of the Kingdoms. Playing out similar to the previous Mount & Blade: Warband, gamers will also find that there will be different vassals, armor, weapons, and architecture that was inspired from 600 to 1100 A.D.
