If and when the zombie apocalypse happens, you’ll be prepared. Check out some of these upcoming open-world zombie games that should be hitting the marketplace this year.
#5 Days Gone Remastered

What’s more challenging than a zombie game? One where they can pop out of anywhere because of how vast the world is! The remastered version of Days Gone is coming soon to PS5, and you’ll get to experience this post-apocalyptic world with an updated graphics package and other tiny fixes to make the game stand out more.
As Deacon St. John, you’re trying to make it through this world in one piece, which isn’t always easy for a bounty hunter. Adapt on the fly, take on missions, and do all you can to take out the Freakers when they arrive. They’re smarter and more capable than you think, so don’t underestimate them…or else!
#4 Wanderlost

While many zombie titles try and give you complex reasons for surviving in the world you’re in, games like Wanderlost give you a far more basic reason. You are thrown into a post-apocalyptic world with minimal supplies on you, and you have to figure things out and survive! So, yeah, get to work!
The best part is that this is a procedurally generated world, which means that you can literally explore to your heart’s content and never reach the “end.” Or, you can simply pick a spot to live on and build it up however you want!
Just be ready to defend what’s yours, alright?
#3 God Save Birmingham

Here’s a stark contrast to our last game. God Save Birmingham is a unique zombie title that is set in 14th century England! A plague of undeath has swept the land, and now, you must rummage through the countryside to find supplies to help your own survival, while also fighting off the undead hordes you’ll come across.
It’s not just about fighting off the zombies but keeping your body fed and having the energy to keep going. You’ll be traveling constantly to stay away from the zombie horde, and you’ll need to do all you can to not be consumed by them.
Do you think you can handle that?
#2 Dying Light: The Beast

He’s back!!!!! Yes, the original protagonist of the franchise, Kyle Crane, has returned. However, if you think he looks “different” than before, that shows you were paying attention. Kyle has been experimented on for years, and after he breaks free, he ends up in the Castor Woods.
Here, a group of people are trying to make a living for themselves, but they’re being hunted by both the ones who tortured Kyle and the monsters that lurk within the woods themselves.
With newfound powers and a rage that is burning brightly, Kyle must make key decisions to decide how to proceed and who to rip to shreds.
#1 State of Decay 3

The struggle to survive is hard enough in our current world, so now imagine trying to live in a world full of zombies while also trying to live a “regular life.” It’d be really hard if that wasn’t obvious enough. In State of Decay 3, you’ll learn the struggles that survivors in such a world have to endure, as you’ll be part of a community that tries to take back their lives while also dealing with the undead threats all around them.
Every attempt to get something can lead to a zombie attack, and such an attack can lead to one of your crew dying. Death is permanent in this world. So be wary of every risk you take.
