Enjoy a good JRPG? Fortunately for you, there looks to be quite a few heading our way throughout 2025. Check out some of these upcoming games you’ll want to mark down on your 2025 calendars.

#8 Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition

Yes, we know that “JRPG” can mean many different things, and you might be surprised what Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition doesn’t have from that genre versus what it does have from it. What we will say is that the game does feel like a JRPG in its scale and scope. You are part of the last remnants of humanity who have crashed upon an alien world.

Here, you must forage for supplies, map out your new homeland, and take on alien threats that are bent on destroying you.

Plus, as you meet new allies, you’ll get to have “heart-to-heart” conversations with them and further your relationships!

#7 Arisen Force: Vonimir

If you’re familiar with the stylings of recent Square Enix RPGs, you’ll feel right at home with Arisen Force: Vonimir. The game takes a similar style with its pixel art, while also upping the ante with the game’s exploration, combat etc.

You’ll travel the world and create the story you want. That might mean you go and battle everything in sight, or you might desire to create a business where you can make serious money. Perhaps you want to adventure across this land to see what secrets it holds.

With unique characters, an active battle system, and plenty of options before you, you’ll create the legend that you desire.

#6 Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero

Are you ready to raise the main sail and see if you have what it takes to take on a dangerous fleet of monsters? If so, jump into Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero when it arrives and see if you’re able to handle the challenges ahead! You’ll play Marona, who has a unique ability involving seeing phantoms.

She and her new friend Apricot roam around the water-filled world that they’re in to help out others, but soon find themselves at odds with the Shipwreck Fleet! Through skills and items, you’ll find special phantoms to recruit to your party and unleash devastating powers that will wipe out the foes that stand in your way.

#5 Demonschool

We’re not going to lie; a place that features students fighting demons isn’t a place we’re really up for going to. Yet, in Demonschool, that’s exactly what’s happening. You are Faye, and you find yourself within a mysterious university where all sorts of weird things are going down. The classmates you meet are your partners in taking these demons down, and you’ll have to learn how to move carefully to defeat them.

While you work your way through the university, you’ll have to plan your schedule so you can gain new skills, build relationships, and get stronger. You’ll need every advantage to take on the monsters coming your way.

#4 Legends of Astravia

It says a lot that many RPGs coming out in 2025 have an affinity for what came before. Legends of Astravia actually describes itself as a “retro RPG,” and you can get that feeling with the graphics and all that is within it. You are Oliver, a man whose past is a mystery, and so he ventures forth to find others who might be able to help him learn the truth about himself.

However, his isn’t the only quest going on, as a dangerous trio of villains are attempting to awaken a dark entity and bring ruin to the world once more. Fight for the truth and the planet in this fun RPG!

#3 Tales of Graces f Remastered

Are you ready for a classic RPG adventure to get a new lease on life? Tales of Graces f Remastered is an adventure that stars three children who are on a mission to save both their homes and their futures. A single promise binds them all together, and they will do all that they can to fulfill that promise and see that things are restored to how they should be.

Aside from the gripping story and powerful combat mechanics, the game has improved graphics and multiple quality-of-life features to help new players or those who weren’t able to beat it before.

Your adventure awaits!

#2 Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii

How could we not put Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii towards the end? No, seriously, how could we not? This is a pirate adventure that no one ever expected to happen, and yet, SEGA is making it happen. When fan-favorite character Goro Majima gets amnesia and soon finds himself captaining a pirate ship, he’ll find that his adventures are about to be even grander than normal.

He’ll attempt to be quite a grand pirate, including taking on other crews both on the high seas and in the curious place known as Madlantis. However, will Goro choose to remain this way forever? Or, will he seek out his true memories?

#1 Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

While Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 may not be the most traditional JRPG around, especially when you consider its setting, the looks of the characters, etc., it does have many of the merits of those classic titles of the past. In fact, the director of the game intentionally wanted to make a title that paid tribute to the beloved JRPGs of his past.

To that end, the game has a turn-based combat system where you’ll build your character skills in whatever ways you want so you can do maximum damage in combat, all the while parrying enemy attacks!

Plus, it has a deep and personal story about saving the world! What’s more JRPG than that?
